Mining-site inventory
Mapped active and abandoned mining sites from satellite imagery and existing geospatial datasets.
Environmental impact assessment · Plateau State
Active and abandoned mining footprints, vegetation change, erosion and altered drainage assessed across Jos South and Barkin Ladi to support remediation planning.
Project objective
The assessment examined mining-related disturbance across Jos South and Barkin Ladi, combining remote sensing, existing datasets and field observations to identify degraded surfaces, vegetation impacts, erosion, mine ponds and drainage alteration.
My contribution
I translated satellite and field evidence into an integrated spatial account of mining disturbance and environmental risk.
Mapped active and abandoned mining sites from satellite imagery and existing geospatial datasets.
Quantified land degradation and vegetation loss using LULC classification and change analysis.
Applied NDVI to assess mining-related changes in vegetation health and ecosystem condition.
Identified erosion-prone surfaces and altered drainage patterns linked to mining.
Integrated field observations and secondary evidence to check mapped impacts.
Produced thematic maps supporting impact reporting and remediation planning.
Spatial workflow
Compile mining locations, ponds, imagery and field observations.
Map land cover and disturbed surfaces through time.
Analyse NDVI, erosion susceptibility and drainage alteration.
Compare spatial interpretations with field and secondary evidence.
Communicate impact patterns through thematic maps and remediation evidence.
